1. End Corporate Capture of FAO – Food Sovereignty Now! |
12. Oktober 2023 | Online
A silent revolution is underway at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Corporations are being given increasing influence at the expense of states, small scale food producers, Indigenous Peoples and civil society. The International Planning Committee for Food Sovereignty (IPC) invites you to an online public briefing to shed light on the creeping process of corporate takeover of FAO and other UN agencies.
Panelists will be representatives of small-scale food producers: Saúl Vicente Vásquez, International Indian Treaty Council, Mexico & Paola Laini, La Via Campesina Youth Collective, Italy.
Two of the authors of a new report mapping the corporate actors active in the World Food Forum: Sofía Monsalve, FIAN International & Angela Carriedo, Corporate Accountability.
And with UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Michael Fakhri.

2. The New Colonialist Food Economy |
This past summer, the global trade regime finalized details for a revolution in African agriculture. Under a pending draft protocol on intellectual property rights, the trade bodies sponsoring the African Continental Free Trade Area seek to lock all 54 African nations into a proprietary and punitive model of food cultivation, one that aims to supplant farmer traditions and practices that have endured on the continent for millennia. 3. Five questions Gates Foundation Goalkeepers should answer about their agriculture projects in Africa |
Sept. 2023 | US Right to Know
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s annual live-streamed Goalkeepers event convenes this week as world leaders gather for the 78th UN General Assembly. Pre-event press promises inspirational news for “thinkers and doers” who want to “save” dying mothers and nurture hope for a brighter world. If past Goalkeepers are a guide, the PR event is likely to generate laudatory press coverage that ignores the global chorus of criticisms about the foundation’s agricultural development work in Africa.

6. Genetically Engineered Soil Microbes: Risks and Concerns |
Biotech companies are developing genetically engineered microbes for use in agriculture, including the largest agrichemical corporations — Bayer-Monsanto, Syngenta, and BASF. The first of these products are already being used across millions of acres of U.S. farmland. The release of live genetically engineered microbes in agriculture represents an unprecedented open-air genetic experiment. The scale of release is far larger and the odds of containment far smaller than for genetically engineered crops. This report provides historical context for this novel technology, insight into future trends, a summary of potential risks, and policy recommendations that would ensure robust assessment and oversight as more genetically engineered microbes move from the lab to the field. |

8. Environmentalists Owe an Enormous Debt to Julian Assange |
August 2023 | Counterpunch
Environmentalists throughout the world owe an enormous debt of gratitude to political prisoner Julian Assange, the founder and publisher of Wikileaks — and most of them don’t know it.
It wasn’t only secret recordings pertaining to war and crimes-against-humanity that Wikileaks published, based on the heroic work of Chelsea Manning who downloaded thousands of secret US military files. A slew of cables Assange published revealed massive U.S. government attempts on behalf of Monsanto to coerce governments to allow foreign corporate land ownership, and with it genetically engineered agricuture throughout the world, and to squelch opposition to GMOs, breaking down existing laws prohibiting the genetic engineering of agriculture.

10. Lecture by Amitav Ghosh |
2. November 2023 | Uni Luzern
The author Amitav Ghosh, D. Phil. (Oxon), Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, gives a lecture entitled “The Nutmeg’s Curse: Non-human voices and more-than-human stories”.
Are humans the only beings that are endowed with the ability to communicate and make meaning? For a long time, it was assumed that this was axiomatically true. But one effect of our increasingly climate-disrupted world is that it has made us aware that our minds and bodies are deeply intertwined with many other organisms, entities and forces. This lecture examines some of these entanglements through the story of the nutmeg tree.

12. Platterbsen in die Küchen und auf die Teller! |
17. Oktober 2023 | gzpk, CSS
